In preparation for the upcoming 2024-2025 college basketball season, the UNC women's basketball program has added another experienced assistant coach to Courtney Banghart's staff.

The program announced that Katherine Bixby is the latest addition to the staff, as she'll serve as an assistant coach. She comes to Chapel Hill with more than 15 years of experience already under her belt, as she'll look to help take the Tar Heels to the next level this season and beyond.

A two-sport star at Ithaca College, Bixby was an assistant for her alma mater before taking over the head coaching spot at Dickinson College (from 2014-2017). From there, Bixby made her way to Johns Hopkins, where she guided the program to a good amount of success during her six seasons with the program.

Bixby led the Blue Jays to five straight seasons of 17 or more wins, including back-to-back 20-win campaigns. She earned the conference's Coach of the Year award in 2019 and guided Johns Hopkins to a regular season title in 2023.

Most recently, Bixby spent last season at Loyola of Maryland, where the Grayhounds posted their first winning season since the 2010-2011 campaign.

Not only does Bixby come to North Carolina with a variety of coaching experience, she also hasn the reputation of having her student-athletes excel both on and off the court. While at Johns Hopkins, the Blue Jays ranked on the WBCA National Academic Honor Roll on four separate occasions, as you can already tell that she has a mindset that will fit perfectly with what Banghart strives for with the UNC women's basketball program.
