UNC Women's Basketball offers intriguing Class of 2025 prospect
Emily Hunter's recruitment is heating up rather quickly, as Courtney Banghart and the UNC women's basketball program have officially jumped into the mix.
Hunter, a 6-foot-8 center from Henrico, Virginia received an offer from North Carolina on June 18. The Tar Heels are one of multiple schools to offer Hunter over the last week, as Syracuse, Florida, Marquette, and Ole Miss have also extended offers her way.
Currently, Hunter isn't regarded as a top-100 prospect in the Class of 2025. However, that could change over time, especially with more Power 5 schools starting to see what she brings to the table.
Sure, you can't teach height, so her 6-foot-8 frame is certainly enticing. However, she just isn't a tall presence, as she uses her height to her advantage.
If you watch her highlight films on HUDL, Hunter is a relentless rebounder who also serves as an elite shot blocker. It's evident that she has a height advantage against her opponents, but that shouldn't take away from the fact that she moves well to the ball and is able to alter shots very effectively.
Offensively, essentially all of her damage comes in the paint area, as her highlight film showcases her ability to grab offensive rebounds and turn them into second chance points. That skillset is valuable, especially at the college level, as she has the ability to to create additional opportunities for her team.
If you look at the women's college basketball landscape, teams that feature height and athleticism tend to bode well, especially deep in the NCAA Tournament. Hunter has the ability to be an impact player like we saw this past season with a player like Kamila Cardoso, as it definitely doesn't hurt to have someone with the size and athleticism that Emily Hunter has to offer.
At this point, Hunter might be the best kept secret on the 2025 recruiting trail. Hopefully the UNC women's basketball program can earn a commitment from her recruitment really begins to heat up.
