UNC Women's Basketball duo earn All-ACC honors for the 2023-2024 season
On Tuesday, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its annual honors for the 2023-2024 women's college basketball season.
To no surprise, two UNC women's basketball stars earned All-ACC honors.
Deja Kelly was named a first-team All-ACC selection, while fellow senior captain Alyssa Ustby was named to a second-team All-ACC recipient.
For the third season in a row, Kelly is a first-team All-ACC player. The San Antonio, Texas native lead North Carolina in scoring and ranked eighth among ACC qualifiers with her 16.8 points per game. She was even better in conference play, averaging 17.8 points against conference foes. Recently, Kelly became the 11th player in program history to reach the 1,800 career points mark.
Ustby earned All-ACC honors for the third time in her career, as she was a second-team recipient as a sophomore and made the first team following her junior season. The Rochester, Minnesota native does it all for the Tar Heels, ranking in the ACC's top 10 in rebounding (fourth), field goal percentage (sixth), blocks (ninth), steals (tied tenth), and assists (tenth).
Both players are integral parts of the UNC women's basketball program's success, as you could definitely make a case that Ustby should be alongside Kelly on the first-team for this season. The important thing to remember is that the league respects and recognizes what both players bring to the table, as they hope to finish their senior seasons off strong.
Along with Kelly and Ustby's All-ACC nods, sophomore Indya Nivar finished third in the ACC Sixth Player Award voting.
The UNC women's basketball program starts postseason play on Thursday afternoon as they take on Miami in the second round of the ACC Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina.
