UNC Women's Basketball: Deja Kelly announces transfer destination
Just a few days ago, Deja Kelly announced that she will not be returning to the UNC women's basketball program for a fifth season.
At the time, Kelly didn't announce her transfer destination, as it seemed as if she wanted to let her thank you letter to the North Carolina community resonate for a few days.
On Monday, Kelly announced her future plans, as she'll be committing to the Oregon Ducks to finish out her collegiate career.
Kelly will join Kelly Graves' team at Oregon as they transition into the BIG-10 for the 2024-2025 school year. The Ducks, coming off an 11-21 season, hope that Kelly can help turn things around.
Oregon has added a true baller, as Kelly made a name for herself during her time in Chapel Hill. She leaves Chapel Hill 1,851 career points, which gives her sole possession of eighth place on the UNC women's basketball program's all-time scoring record. She was a three-time first-team All-ACC selection and helped guide the program to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2022.
It's weird to see Deja Kelly in another uniform, but it's something fans of college basketball need to get used to. Kelly's instance was a bit different, as her class is the final group that received an additional year of eligibility due to COVID-19, so it's been a common occurrance for fifth-year seniors to head elsewhere to cap off their careers.
Even though her college career will end as a member of the Oregon Ducks, Deja Kelly will always be remembered as a Tar Heel.
