UNC Women's Basketball: Courtney Banghart reaches coaching milestone
Courtney Banghart has had a lot of success as a head coach at the Division I level. On Friday, the UNC women's basketball program's victory over Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament was a testament of that success.
With the win, Banghart picked up her 350th career coaching victory. She's also closing in on 100 wins as the leader of the UNC women's basketball program, as she currently holds a 96-55 record over her five seasons in Chapel Hill.
Banghart's head coaching career began in 2007, as she was tabbed to take over a Princeton program that didn't have much previous success. She transformed a program that never played in the NCAA Tournament to one that became a perennial tournament participant, as her best season at the helm came in 2015 when the Tigers went 31-1 on the season.
Her success in turning the Princeton women's basketball program around led her to Chapel Hill, as she's also taken the UNC women's basketball program to higher levels. The Tar Heels have now had three consecutive 20+ win seasons, as the program is definitely one that continues to be on the rise.
It's safe to say that North Carolina made a tremendous hire when they brought Courtney Banghart to Chapel Hill, as she serves as the perfect leader for a program that still is looking to grow over time.
Based on what we've seen in her five seasons at the helm, Banghart is definitely the right coach to lead the way. The hope is that many more wins are to come for one of the top coaches in college basketball.
