UNC National Championship Odds Remain Disrespectful

The Tar Heels are being overlooked in the National Champions odds despite having everything needed to make a deep run in March Madness.

North Carolina is on a roll as it heads into the ACC Tournament, having won six straight games capped off by an impressive road win over rival Duke in the season finale.

The Tar Heels (25-6) won their first outright ACC regular-season championship since the 2016-17 season and are the top seeds in the ACC Tournament.

Despite all their success, the Tar Heels are still being overlooked in the National Championship odds. They're currently around +1700 or +1800 depending on the sportsbook. That gives them the sixth best odds to win it, behind UConn, Houston, Purdue, Arizona and Tennessee.

While UConn, Houston and Purdue deserve to be the atop the odds, I would take UNC over Tennessee and Arizona. The Vols just lost to Kentucky in its regular-season finale and Rick Barnes teams always tend to choke in March. Arizona was also upset by USC this past weekend and was upset by Washington State on its home court two weeks ago.

North Carolina, meanwhile, has a veteran team led by two players who have already appeared in the National Championship. Its point guard, RJ Davis, is one of the best in the country and strong guard play is key to success in March. Like Davis, big man Armando Bacot also played in the National Championship two years ago. That leadership is also critical in the tournament.

While I'm not advocating to bet it all on the Tar Heels to win, I do think they have the makings for a deep run -- leadership, guard play, strong defense, efficient offense.
