UNC Football program not giving up on this Class of 2025 recruit

A verbal pledge to another program isn't stopping Mack Brown and the UNC football program from pursuing this three-star product.

Just over a month ago, three-star Class of 2025 prospect Julien Horton verbally committed to Maryland.

Although he has a verbal pledge in place, the UNC football program seems to believe that there is a possibility to flip that commitment before its all said and done.

On Tuesday, Horton announced on social media that the UNC football program extended an offer to him. The Bell Air, Maryland native is currently ranked as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, as they tab him as the No. 16 overall prospect from his home state and the No. 49 overall safety in his graduating class.

Now, there are a few elements to consider here. For starters, sure, Horton has given a verbal commitment to the Terapins. As we've seen in the past, however, things can rapidly change, as student-athletes across the country ultimately take back their pledge and look elsewhere.

In the case of Horton, do the Tar Heels know something we don't?

This could be a case of a player's stock beginning to rise, as we might see a trend of higher level programs start offering this three-star prospect. Of course, there are plenty of instances where the student-athlete holds true to their original commitment, but there's always that slight possibility that things can change.

If you're the UNC football program, it doesn't hurt to extend the offer in case Horton decides to pursue other opportunities.

Needless to say, this will be a high school prospect to keep an eye on, as we'll have to wait and see if his recruitment opens up over the next couple of months.
