With the start of the 2024 college football season less than a month away, the Atlantic Coast Conference released its annual Preseason Poll.

The 2024 ACC Preseason Poll was conducted via a vote of a media panel of 170 media voters, including those who were credentialed for last week’s ACC Football Kickoff in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Unfortunately, the expectations aren't that high for Mack Brown and the UNC football program, as they were projected to finish eighth in the new-look 17-team conference.

After struggling down the stretch in each of the last two seasons, it makes sense why the media is a bit skeptical heading into the 2024 season. With Drake Maye leaving Chapel Hill for the NFL, the UNC football program has a big question mark at the quarterback position, as the Tar Heels hope that whichever quarterback wins the job can help the team improve this upcoming year.

Reigning ACC champion Florida State secured the top spot in the ACC Preseason Poll, while Clemson, Miami and NC State all received first-place votes. Overall, the UNC football program tallied 1712 points in the poll, which was a rather significant jump from the next closest team (Georgia Tech- 1539).

Fortunately for the UNC football program, preseason polls don't necessarily matter much, as it's almost a lock that the final regular season standings will differ in some way, shape or form. Now, the Tar Heels have some motivation as they look to prove to the world that they are a much better football team than people expect them to be.
