UNC Football: Omarion Hampton tabbed as the ACC Running Back of the Week
Was there ever any doubt?
Following his dominant performance in the UNC football program's victory over NC Central, Omarion Hampton has been tabbed the ACC Running Back of the Week.
After missing the second half against Charlotte a week prior, there were some concerns as to whether or not Hampton would even be available for the Tar Heels Week 3 contest. However, not only did he play but he had one of his best overall performances as a Tar Heel, rushing for 210 yards and three touchdowns.
While the UNC football program's offense was a bit lackluster throughout, Hampton was consistently dominant. Sure, Mack Brown and company didn't want to have their star back carry such a big load against a non-conference foe, but given the way the game played out, Hampton's production was very much needed.
In essentially two and a half games this season, Hampton has rushed for 416 yards on 66 carries. With his goal of trying to reach the single-season 2,000-yard rushing mark in mind, performances like the one he put together in front of the home crowd on Saturday afternoon will surely help strength that quest.
Hampton and the undefeated UNC football program will host JMU on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Tar Heels look to finish off non-conference play on a strong note before heading down the road to Durham to begin ACC action.
