UNC Football: Max Johnson to miss the remainder of the 2024 season
The UNC football program received some unfortunate news regarding the injury status of starting quarterback Max Johnson, as it was revealed that he will be forced to miss the remainder of the 2024 season.
In the third quarter of his first game with the program, Johnson took a low hit followed by a second hit. He was in clear as he clutched on to his right leg, and was taken off the field on a cart. Shortly after, the graduate transfer was taken to a local hospital, where surgery was performed to repair a broken femur.
Before leaving the game, Johnson completed 12 of 19 passes for a total of 71 yards. He scored the Tar Heels lone touchdown of the night on a three-yard scramble in the second quarter.
This is very disappointing news for the UNC football program as Johnson's season comes to an abrupt end. Although he struggled in the opener, Mack Brown and the Tar Heels coaching staff saw something in him to not only recruit him as a transfer but to also put faith in him to be the team's starting quarterback.
Now, Conner Harrell will take over the role as the team's starting quarterback. This injury news makes the transfer return of Jacolby Criswell even more important as the UNC football program has a signal-caller with collegeiate experience to backup the team's new starter.
Best wishes to Max Johnson on a speedy recovery from this injury.
