UNC Football in contact with rival running back
The UNC football program has lost a good amount of players via the transfer portal, as they look to replenish some of that lost talent by bringing in some transfers of their own.
One glaring need for the Tar Heels comes at the running back position. Other than Omarion Hampton, who was one of the nation's best running backs this season, there isn't much depth left behind him, as British Brooks exhausted his eligibility while George Pettaway and Elijah Green both opted to enter the transfer portal.
Could a transfer option from the UNC football program's rival be a potential addition for the Tar Heels?
According to Brad Crawford of 247Sports, the UNC football program is one of the teams that has been in contact with former Duke running back Jordan Waters. At this point, Waters doesn't have any official visits scheduled.
Waters is coming off a season in which he managed 883 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns. During his time in Durham, Waters rushed for 1,624 yards and found the end zone 23 times in the running game while adding an additional 305 receiving yards and another score to his resume.
With one season of eligibility remaining, Waters may be looking for a chance to be an every-down back for the school that he chooses to attend. Although he wouldn't have that opportunity in Chapel Hill, Waters and Hampton could be a very lethal 1-2 punch that could cause plenty of problems for opposing defenses during the 2024 season.
We wouldn't expect Waters to change to the better shade of blue, but it is an interesting development to see Mack Brown and the UNC football program exploring the best possible options to help bolster next year's squad.
