UNC Football: Drake Maye's NFL preseason debut is short-lived
New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said that Drake Maye would play in the team's preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers.
However, Mayo never said how long the former UNC football star would be in the game.
Maye's NFL preseason debut lasted one whole series, as the former Tar Heel took over at quarterback on the team's second possession. As expected, Jacoby Brissett started the game at quarterback for New England, as his one-drive outing was followed by Maye's one drive on the field.
Sure, the weather conditions certainly played a factor, as heavy rain hit the New England area. To add to that, the Patriots starting offensive line did not play, so why risk having your first round pick get hurt in a meaningless preseason game?
Maye completed two of his three passes for 19 yards, as his first career completion was a screen pass that resulted in a Patriots' first down.
Although we didn't get to see much of Drake Maye in his preseason debut, there will be plenty of time for us to watch the former UNC football star take the field for the Patriots.
