UNC Football: British Brooks makes the Houston Texans initial 53-man roster
British Brooks continues to defy the odds!
Fans of the UNC football program know the tale about Brooks. He entered college at the University of North Carolina as a walk-on, as he proved himself both on and off the field to eventually become a scholarship player. Whether it was as a special teams player or in the backfield as a running back, Brooks made the most of every opportunity he's earned, and now has proven that at the next level as well.
Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans, Brooks once again had to prove his worth. He certainly did just that, as he earned a spot on the Texans' initial 53-man roster for the upcoming NFL season.
Versatility is a major trait that NFL teams look for, as having players who can fulfill multiple roles is extremely valuable to have. Brooks can do just that, as not only does he have plenty of experience on special teams but could fill in at both running back and full back for the Texans throughout the season.
Think about this: how many guys who were drafted this year even played a single snap on special teams during their collegiate careers?
At this point, it's safe to say that you should never bet against British Brooks, as he has taken the underdog role and has truly embraced it. From his rise at the collegiate ranks to restarting the process now as a pro, Brooks isn't satisfied with just making the roster- he wants to be on an NFL roster for a very long time.
