UNC Football: 3 players who must step up during the 2024 season
The UNC football program could use a boost from these three current players throughout the 2024 season.
Special teams can easily win or lose games for a team, as the punting unit didn't do the Tar Heels many favors a season ago.
Returning for another season, punter Tom Maginness looks to re-write the narrative, as he has shown flashes of being able to be a great punter but was wildly inconsistent a year ago. This is the same guy that averaged 32.6 yards per punt (5 punts) in a loss to Virginia and followed up a week later by booting three punts at Georgia Tech for an average of 50 yards (with a season-best 57-yard punt included).
Needless to say, the UNC football program needs him to be closer to the one we saw against Georgia Tech, as field position is a crucial aspect that the Tar Heels will need to control this season.
