On Christmas Day, the final AP Top-25 Polls for the 2023 calendar year were released.

After defeating previously undefeated No. 7-ranked Oklahoma, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program crept their way back into the top 10 heading into the new year.

The Tar Heels moved up two spots to No. 9 in this week's rankings. They jumped the Sooners, who dropped five spots to No. 12, and remain the highest-ranked ACC up to this point.

North Carolina, who is currently 8-3 on the 2023-2024 regular season, have faced a very tough non-conference schedule, as two of their losses came from teams ranked above them. UConn comes in at No. 5 this week, while Kentucky is one spot ahead of the Tar Heels at No. 8.

The UNC women's basketball program is also coming off a victory over the Sooners, as they remained in the No. 24 spot in this week's rankings.

Courtney Banghart's team has been idle since December 19, but have one more game on the 2023 slate as they kick off conference play against Clemson on New Year's Eve.

Similar to the men's team, the women's team has arguably played the toughest non-conference schedule throughout the entire country. Sitting at 8-4 through 12 games, the tough competition that the Tar Heels saw throughout November and December should help them as they begin to focus on their upcoming ACC opponents.
