UNC Basketball star RJ Davis tabbed as Jerry West Award finalist
WHY NOT 4?
On Tuesday, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the five finalists for the 2024 Jerry West Award. To no surprise, UNC basketball star RJ Davis is on the list.
Now in its tenth year, the Jerry West Award highlights the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball. Based off the year he's put together, Davis has solidified himself among the front-runners for the award.
Heading into the Tar Heels (and potentially Davis') final home game, the White Plains, New York native leads the ACC in scoring at 21.4 points per game. He recently set the UNC basketball program's single game record of 42 points at the Dean Smith Center last week in a win over the Miami Hurricanes.
There is another notable student-athlete among the finalists, as former Tar Heel Caleb Love also made the cut. Here's the full list of finalists for the 2024 Jerry West Award:
2024 Jerry West Award Finalists
Caleb Love- Arizona
Kevin McCullar Jr.- Kansas
Antonio Reeves- Kentucky
Tyson Walker- Michigan State
RJ Davis- North Carolina
If Davis wins the award, he would become the first ever UNC basketball player to do so. He would also become just the second player from the ACC to earn the nomination, as RJ Barrett of Duke was the first to win it back in 2019.
Needless to say, Davis has been incredible during his senior season, as he took on the reins of leading the UNC basketball program. After a rough 2022-2023 season, Davis has spearheaded a resurgence for the Tar Heels, as they are now just one win away from clinching at least a share of the ACC regular season title.
