The UNC basketball program was originally scheduled to compete against Hawaii in non-conference action back during the 2020-2021 season. However, COVID impacted the season, as the two programs weren't able to square off.

As the Tar Heels are scheduled to compete in the Maui Invitiational for the first time since then, it appears that the two programs found a way to add a matchup on their respective non-conference schedules.

The Hawaii Athletics Department announced via a press release that they are scheduled to host North Carolina on November 22. This matchup will come just days before the Tar Heels compete in the 2024 Maui Invitational.

North Carolina has had success against Hawaii in the past, as they've won each of the five previous meetings between the two squads. The last meeting came on November 18, 2016, as the UNC basketball program went on to win by a score of 83-68. Isaiah Hicks' 16 points led the team, as five different Tar Heels scored in double-figures.

Hawaii has had some recent success, as they've won 20+ games in each of the last two seasons. Similar to the trend we've seen with the Tar Heels' non-conference schedule, the program is looking to make this slate of games as challenging as possible, as North Carolina has found some quality opponents to fill its schedule voids.
