UNC Basketball: RJ Davis earns second ACC Player of the Week Honor
Not many players have been as productive as RJ Davis has been during the early portion of the 2023-2024 college basketball season.
In fact, the UNC basketball standout guard has put together an elite seven-game stretch, scoring at least 23 points in each of those contests. He became the first Tar Heel since the legendary Tyler Hansbrough to lead the UNC basketball program in scoring for seven consecutive games.
During that stretch, Davis scored 23, 30, 27, 27, 26, 27 and 23 points, which gives him 183 total points in that span. That's the most points a Tar Heel has scored over a seven-game span over the last 16 seasons.
His latest outing was a memorable one, as the senior from White Plains, New York scored 13 of his 23 points while knocking down a season-best five three-pointers to lead the UNC basketball program to a victory over previously undefeated No. 7 ranked Oklahoma.
For his efforts in that contest against the Sooners, Davis has earned his second ACC Player of the Week honor for the 2023-2024 season.
Davis was first named the ACC Player of the Week after his stellar performances in the Bahamas, as he scored 23 points against Villanova and followed it up with a career-high 30 points over top-25 ranked Arkansas.
Now that he's earned the award twice this season, Davis becomes the first UNC basketball guard to earn multiple ACC Player-of-the-Week honors in a single season since Joel Berry was a four time recipient in 2017.
Davis has been incredible for the UNC basketball program, as his game has been taken to another level. For a guy who was snubbed off the preseason All-ACC teams, Davis is someone who is certainly playing with a chip on his shoulder, as he continues to prove that he not only is very important to the UNC basketball program, but also should be considered among the best guard in the entire country.
