UNC Basketball Recruiting: Is five-star Jasper Johnson nearing a final decision?
The focus right now is on Peach Jam, but for five-star Jasper Johnson, he could be ready to close his recruitment for good shortly after.
It's no secret that Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program are heavily recruiting the 6-foot-4 guard from Link Academy, as he's widely considered a top-10 prospect in the Class of 2025. Davis and his staff were on hand at Peach Jam to watch Johnson live in action, as they aren't shying away from showing their interest in the lefty guard.
In the above social media post, Joe Tipton of On3 teased that a decision could be looming for Johnson, as all signs seem to point to this being a three-team race between the UNC basketball program, Alabama, and Kentucky.
While the Tar Heels have shown heavy interest, they might have some ground to catch up on in his recruitment. Kentucky may have a slight edge, given that Johnson is originally from Johnson Woodford County, Kentucky, as he transferred to Link Academy last year to further his basketball skills. Although he no longer resides in Kentucky, he's still considered an in-state product by Mark Pope and his staff.
The competition is steep for Jasper Johnson's services, as the talented guard has the makings of being an immediate star for whichever college program he chooses to commit to. It would be a major splash for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program if Johnson elects to become a Tar Heel, as he would be a major first addition to the Tar Heels 2025 recruiting class.
