UNC Basketball program finishes in top 10 in final AP Top 25 Poll
The final AP Top 25 Poll of the 2023-2024 season has been released, as Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program come in at No. 7 to close out the season.
This marks the 39th time that the AP Poll has ranked the Tar Heels in the top 10 in its final edition, which serves as the third most in college basketball history.
If you recall, the UNC basketball program was picked at No. 19 in the initial poll for the 2023-2024 season. This is the first time since the 2005-06 season that North Carolina finishes the season ranked in the top 10 after not cracking it to begin the new campaign.
This top-10 ranking is also the highest finish for a Tar Heels team since 2018-2019, a year in which the UNC basketball program finished third in the poll.
It was a successful season in Chapel Hill, as the Tar Heels earned another ACC regular season title. Although the program's postseason goals weren't achieved, this group definitely exceeded the expectations that people had for them at the start of the year.
Give credit to Hubert Davis and his staff for re-shaping the roster. After losing a handful of transfers, Davis attacked the transfer portal and added some key impact players that made a huge difference in their first season with the program.
The focus is now on the offseason once again, as Davis and company will look to figure out how next year's roster will shape up. As they go through that process, it's a good time to reflect on what this year's group was able to accomplish, as they became one of the more memorable UNC basketball teams in the program's rich history.
