Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program have shown interest in Class of 2025 big man Malachi Moreno for some time now, as they finally extended an offer his way on May 21.

Now, just a little over a month later, Moreno's recruitment is starting to heat up, as the Georgetown, Kentucky native has narrowed his recruitment down to just eight teams.

The UNC basketball program is still in the mix, as they join Notre Dame, Arkansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio State, Iowa and Louisville as the team's still involved in Moreno's recruitment.

Given his recent comments about North Carolina, it isn't particularly surprising that the Tar Heels are still in the running for his services. After he recently made an official visit to Kentucky, we'll have to wait and see if a visit to Chapel Hill is in the works.

“I love UNC. I love Coach Sean May. Me and Coach Davis talked the other week and it was a pretty good conversation. He’s a very funny guy. And it’s just a fun atmosphere to be around.”

This is good news for the UNC basketball program as they've seemed to quickly make Moreno a priority target within the Class of 2025. Given the current roster's lack of depth in regard to having true centers, adding a player like Moreno could be a major boost, especially with Jalen Washington only having a season of eligibilty left following the 2024-2025 season.

The focus is currently on the Class of 2025, as Hubert Davis and his staff have extended some new offers and have continued to recruit some student-athletes who have earned an offer from the Tar Heels over the last few months. As the recruitments for this talented class moves closer to the finish line, it will be interesting to see which Class of 2025 standouts elect to call Chapel Hill their future home.

It's certain that Hubert Davis and company hope that Moreno is one of those players who decides to become a Tar Heel.
