The emphasis is clearly on the Class of 2025, as the UNC basketball program has wasted no time extending a handful of scholarship offers to some rising talents.

After the open recruiting period this weekend, Derek Dixon was one of the student-athletes that earned an offer from the Tar Heels.

Dixon is a four-star combo guard from Washington, D.C. He is currently ranked as the No. 2 overall player in his home state and the No. 64 overall prospect in the Class of 2025 (according to 247Sports Composite).

This weekend, the Tar Heels coaching staff kept a close eye on Dixon, as David Sisk reported that Hubert Davis was in attendance in Indianapolis watching him compete for his AAU squad, Team Takeover.

Based off his early EYBL numbers, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the UNC basketball program has extended an offer. Through 10 games, the 6-foot-3 guard is averaging 16 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game while shooting the basketball at a red-hot clip of 60.4% from the floor. He has also been draining three pointers at an elite level, burying 57.5% of his attempts thus far.

North Carolina isn't the only program involved (especially in the ACC), as Dixon currently holds offers from the likes of Iowa, Kansas State, Miami, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. The Tar Heels may have some ground to catch up on in regards to this recruitment, as Dixon has already made official stops to both Pittsburgh and Virginia during his recruitment.

There will be plenty of buzz surrounding the Class of 2025 over the next few months, as the UNC basketball program has identified quite a few players who they believe would fit the program. Derek Dixon is now one of them, as UNC basketball fans should keep an eye on his recruitment as it starts to heat up.
