UNC Basketball duo named to 2024 ACC All-Tournament team
Saturday night didn't go as planned for the UNC basketball program as they lost to No. 10-seed NC State in the 2024 ACC Tournament championship game.
However, two Tar Heels put together strong individual performances over the past week to earn ACC All-Tournament team honors.
RJ Davis and Armando Bacot earned spots on the first-team All-Tournament team, as they played a huge role in North Carolina's ascension to the tournament finals.
Especially over the final two games of the tournament, Davis and Bacot stepped up their games even more. The duo combined to score 92 of North Carolina's 148 total points over that span, as the veteran leaders were more than ready to compete for the ACC Tournament title.
Davis' scoring output increased as the week went on. After scoring 18 points in a blowout victory over Florida State, the senior guard followed it up with 25 and 30 point outings against the Panthers and Wolfpack respectively. Although Davis was called upon to take a lot of shots in the championship game (due to a bit of stagnant offense along with the lack of other Tar Heels being able to score the basketball), Davis put together a strong all-around performance, adding six rebounds, five assists and two steals over 36 minutes of action.
Bacot did what he does best: be a double-doubles machine. The Richmond, Virginia native posted three double-double outings, including a 18 point, 12 rebound performance against NC State, as he was a consistent presence for a Tar Heels squad that definitely needed it. Although DJ Burns had his way against the Tar Heels, Bacot put together a strong performance of his own, as he did all he could to try and slow down Burns throughout the game.
Although the tournament didn't end how the UNC basketball program hoped it would, it shouldn't take away from the strong week of performances that both RJ Davis and Armando Bacot put together.
