UNC Basketball duo among Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 List
The John R. Wooden Award is presented annually to the most outstanding men's and women's college basketball players.
On Wednesday night, the 25 student-athletes who were named to the midseason watch list were announced, as the UNC basketball program is just one of three schools with two players selected.
Armando Bacot and RJ Davis are among the players who made the midseason award watch list, as both student-athletes have played a major role in the UNC basketball program's success so far this season.
Although he has had some stretches where he wasn't as dominant as we all expect him to be, Bacot is still one of the nation's best big men. Coming into Wednesday night's contest at NC State, the fifth-year big man was averaging 14.9 points and 11.1 rebounds per-game, as he drastically has improved his free throw shooting which has helped take his game to another level.
Davis might be the story of the college basketball world, as his emergence into one of the nation's best has been well on display. Through 14 games, the senior guard from White Plains, New York was averaging 20.6 points per game, which is four points above his average from a season ago, while he also has done a little bit of everything for this Tar Heels team.
Along with Bacot and Davis, another familiar name made the list, as former Tar Heel Caleb Love was also featured among the selected student-athletes. Love is coming off being named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, as he's been a strong addition to an Arizona squad that looks to be the last team standing when it is all said and done.
The UNC basketball program is fortunate to have two of the nation's best on their roster, as Armando Bacot and RJ Davis are playing like they have something to prove. Looking to re-write a disappointing 2022-2023 season, the duo is primed to lead the Tar Heels back to being a serious contender come NCAA Tournament time.
