UNC Basketball: Cormac Ryan named ACC Player of the Week
Was there ever a doubt?!
Cormac Ryan is the ACC Player of the Week for the final week of the 2023-2024 regular season.
Ryan is the fourth UNC basketball player to win ACC Player-of-the-Week honors this season. This marks the first time that North Carolina has had four different recipients during the same season, as Ryan now joins RJ Davis (four times), Armando Bacot (twice), and Harrison Ingram (one) as ACC Player of the Week honorees.
The New York, New York native started his week by scoring 14 points against Notre Dame, his former team, on 'Senior Night' for the UNC basketball program. He followed it up with a legendary performance against rival Duke in his final regular season game, as he scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Tar Heels to the outright ACC regular season title.
Ryan's 31 points was the most scored against Duke since Antawn Jamison's 35 points back on February 5, 1998, as he now is just one of seven Tar Heels to score 30 or more points in a game at Duke.
To add to his scoring accolades, Ryan tied the UNC basketball program's record for three-pointers in a single game against Duke, also done by Brady Manek, Kenny Williams, and Hubert Davis. It was the most threes by a Tar Heel at Duke since Davis, Ryan's current head coach, hit six in 1992.
It was certainly a week to remember for Cormac Ryan, as the graduate student closed out his college regular season career in style. To top it off, Ryan earned this weekly honor, one that will add to the outstanding performance he put together in arguably the biggest regular season game that he's played during his college career.
Ryan and the UNC basketball program will focus on the upcoming ACC Tournament, as they kick off action on Thursday afternoon in Washington, DC.
