UNC Basketball celebrates 'Senior Night' on Tuesday night vs. Notre Dame
Can you imagine that there's only one game left at the Dean Smith Center for the 2023-2025 season?!
On Tuesday, the UNC basketball program will celebrate its 'Senior Night,' as they host Notre Dame in Chapel Hill. The goal is to send off the seniors (and graduate students) with a win in their final game in front of the home crowd.
While some players can return for a fifth season (such as RJ Davis), this will officially be the last home game for the likes of Paxson Wojcik, Cormac Ryan, and, of course, Armando Bacot.
Fans who will be heading to Chapel Hill for the game are encouraged to be in their seats no later than 6:30 PM. You don't want to miss the festivities!
Let's also not forget: this is a HUGE game for the Tar Heels, as a win secures them at least a share of the ACC regular season title.
Don't overlook the Fighting Irish either. Even though they come in with a under-.500 record, Notre Dame has been one of the hottest teams in the ACC, winning five of the last six games.
Key to Victory for North Carolina
Notre Dame has been driven by two freshman guards: Markus Burton and Braeden Shrewsberry.
Both players have burst onto the scene in ACC play, as it will be very important for the Tar Heels to slow them down in this contest.
Burton has especially been hot, as he's scored over 21 points in each of the last three games while consistently being the team's leading scorer. As he isn't the biggest guard out there, will Hubert Davis elect to match him up with RJ Davis or Elliot Cadeau, or could we see Cormac Ryan draw the assignment given his length and defensive ability?
Notre Dame starts three players over 6-foot-9 in the front court, so Ryan might not be able to shadow a smaller guard. However, if the Tar Heels can get Notre Dame in foul trouble, they'll have a size advantage to work with as the game progresses.
Something to Watch For
How will RJ Davis and Armando Bacot perform?
Both players have been major contributors to the program's success over the last five seasons, as they played integral roles in leading the Tar Heels to the national championship game back in 2022.
What do these two have in store in what will be their final home game in Chapel Hill as teammates?
Needless to say, the hope is that they both go out with respective big-time performances.
Last Meeting
The UNC basketball program squared off against Notre Dame twice during the 2022-2023 season, winning both contests.
Most recently. the Tar Heels secured a 63-59 victory at Notre Dame back on February 22, 2023. Four Tar Heels scored in double figures, led by 16 points from both Armando Bacot and Caleb Love. RJ Davis finished with 12 points, while Pete Nance added 11 points of his own.
Current Tar Heel Cormac Ryan led Notre Dame scorers with 14 points.
