After a short stint in Rookie ball, former UNC baseball star Vance Honeycutt has earned a promotion.

Honeycutt will be promoted to High-A, as he'll join the Aberdeen Ironbirds for the final week of the 2024 regular season. Starting Tuesday, the former Diamond Heels center fielder will look to help the Ironbirds take care of business at home against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws as the two teams battle for a playoff spot.

In seven games for the Delmarva Shorebirds, Honeycutt posted a .250 average oer 32 plate appearances. He recorded seven hits, four stolen bases, three RBIs, three walks and two runs scored in his limited action in rookie ball.

Similar to how the Orioles handled Mac Horvath a season ago, Honeycutt got a quick glimpse of professional baseball in rookie ball before being promoted to High-A. Now, the former Tar Heel will look to continue gaining professional baseball experience while helping his new team make a push towards a deep playoff run.

Selected with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, the Baltimore Orioles organization rightfully has high hopes for who they believe could be their future center fielder. We'll have to see how Honeycutt handles his new assignment, as his time with the Diamond Heels should make you believe that he's more than ready for the challenges that are coming his way.
