UNC Baseball: There's no place like home (Boshamer Stadium)

Playing at home was very friendly to the UNC baseball program this season as they dominated in front of the Tar Heel faithful.

As Dorothy famously said in the historic movie 'Wizard Of Oz,' "there's no place like home."

This quote from this very notable film, which was released in 1939, still holds true today, as the UNC baseball program is a testament to realizing there's no better place than home (in our case, Boshamer Stadium).

The 2024 season has been a historic one for the Diamond Heels, as they are heading to the College World Series in Omaha. To get there, the Tar Heels had the luxury of playing in front of the home crowd in Chapel Hill, as the boys in Carolina Blue strung together some memorable moments to close out baseball at The Bosh for this season.

Fans who were fortunate to see the Diamond Heels live at The Bosh this season witnessed a ton of success, as the UNC baseball program was essentially unbeatable on their home field.

The Tar Heels played 40 games at Boshamer Stadium during the 2024 season, winning an astounding 37 of them.

That's what you call taking care of business!

It was fitting that Boshamer Stadium was packed to the brim as the UNC baseball program competed in the Chapel Hill Regional as well as the two Super Regional contests against West Virginia.

In fact, game two of the series against the Mountaineers, the game that clinched the Tar Heels trip to Omaha, featured a historic crowd of 4,491 fans, the most ever for a game at The Bosh.

The "Bosh Magic," was well-on display, as the Diamond Heels strung together a couple of walk-off hits during postseason play in Chapel Hill. From Gavin Gallaher's walk-off blast in the Chapel Hill Regional opener to Luke Stevenson's game-tying homer against West Virginia in game one of the Super Regional (followed by Vance Honeycutt's walk-off blast), this season has provided fans of the UNC baseball program with a lot of fond memories to look back on.

To make it even better: those memories were ones that were created in Chapel Hill, which makes it even more special.

Unfortunately, there will be no more games at The Bosh until 2025, but the home-field advantage played a large role in helping the UNC baseball program get back to the College World Series for the first time since 2018.

Don't you worry though: we'll save some Bosh Magic for next season!
