The UNC baseball program had quite a few players selected during the 2024 MLB Draft, as Aidan Haugh was the final Diamond Heel to hear his name called.

The right-handed pitcher was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 16th round of the 2024 MLB Draft. There is now a chance that Haugh elects to pursue a professional career instead of heading back to Chapel Hill for another season.

Mostly in relief, Haugh made 22 appearances (8 starts) for the UNC baseball program this season. The Zebulon, North Carolina native compiled a 4-3 record with a 4.83 ERA over his 54 total innings of work, as he essentially filled any role that Scott Forbes and the Tar Heels needed him to.

Of course, some may be surprised that Haugh was selected in this year's draft, as his usage didn't necessarily match up with other pitchers who were drafted. However, Haugh has shown flashes of pure dominance on the mound, as some of his traits are ones that MLB scouts dream of bringing into their organization.

The 6-6 210-pound right-hander has the frame of a big-league pitcher and the arm that scouts look for. Haugh has topped out at 96 MPH with his fastball, as he showcased his impressive repertoire during his only season with the UNC baseball program.

Haugh may ultimately elect to return to Chapel Hill, but the Twins organization seems to really like what they see from the right-hander. Regardless of where he ends up, Haugh has the potential to be an asset in any role he plays, as he has the makings of being an elite reliever who still has promise as a guy who could become a very capable and consistent starting pitcher.
