Two UNC football standouts among first-round picks in latest NFL Mock Draft
It's no surprise to see Drake Maye's name pop up as a top-5 pick in mock drafts leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft.
But, could there be two UNC football standouts selected in the first round?!
Daniel Jeremiah seems to believe that could be the case.
In his most recent mock draft, Jeremiah has Maye being selected with the No. 2 overall pick by the Washington Commanders. After Caleb Williams secured the first pick, Jeremiah believes that Maye will be heading to Washington as the Commanders will replace one former Tar Heel quarterback with another.
Normally, most first round mock drafts end the UNC football references at that point, but not this one, as Jeremiah has wide receiver Devontez 'Tez' Walker landing with an AFC powerhouse.
In this mock draft, Walker is projected to be selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the No. 29 overall selection. For a rookie wide receiver, you essentially couldn't find a better landing spot, given the Chiefs need at wide receiver along with having a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Patrick Mahomes under center.
Travis Kelce isn't getting younger, and the Chiefs' wide receiving core left a lot of room for improvement this season. The Chiefs weren't their typical elite offense that we've seen in the past, and adding a player like Walker could definitely help them improve as they look into the future (especially with Mahomes coming into his "prime" years of his career).
We have plenty of time before the 2024 NFL Draft actually takes place, but it's interesting to see where certain draft analysts predict that the top talents will end up. For fans of the UNC football program, it might be time to start looking further down the mock draft, as there may be a possibility that two Tar Heels end up being first round selections.
