After losing a good portion of its running back depth from the 2023 team, Mack Brown and the UNC football program desperately needed to add a compliment to star back Omarion Hampton for next season.

Well, it appears that the Tar Heels have got their guy.

Southern Cal transfer Darwin Barlow has pledged his commitment to join the UNC football program. It is expected that the 6-foot, 220-pound back will be enrolled in time for spring practices.

Barlow, who has one season of eligibility remaining, visited Chapel Hill last weekend. Since then, it has been speculated that he would spend his final season of college football at North Carolina, as his visit seemed to convince him that it was the right landing spot for him.

He began his college career at TCU, as he had his most productive collegiate season during the 2020 campaign. Barlow then decided to transfer to USC, where he showed flashes but never really solidified a role within the team's offensive unit. The former three-star recruit saw his snaps diminish over time, as he now looks to find a more prominent role at North Carolina.

The addition of Barlow is the sixth transfer the UNC football program has added this cycle, five of which came on the offensive side of the ball. Based on his numbers, the move might not be the most flashiest of moves, but given what the Tar Heels need, Barlow could be an ideal fit to compliment what Omarion Hampton already brings to the table.
