The UNC Football program is still transfer portal shopping
On Tuesday, Mack Brown spoke to reporters as part of the media day session ahead of Wednesday night's Duke Mayo Bowl in Charlotte.
The UNC football program's head coach covered a variety of topics, including the upcoming offseason. Although the focus is on West Virginia, Brown admitted that his staff is looking to add talent via the transfer portal at three key positions.
Brown stated that the Tar Heels are looking to add an offensive lineman, defensive lineman and running back in the portal.
Offensive line depth would make a lot of sense, given that North Carolina is set to lose a number of players within this position room. Adding some defensive line help could also be beneficial, as adding another player or two who can get to the quarterback could only help improve the defense moving forward.
With the running back room depleted, the Tar Heels desperately need to add some depth behind star Omarion Hampton. North Carolina has been actively looking at the portal for this particular position, as they've extended offers to some standouts, such as former Miami (OH) running back Rashad Amos.
The transfer portal can both help and hurt a program, as the UNC football program has had its fair share of players departing to other programs. On the flip side, Mack Brown and his staff have the opportunity to bring in some veteran players who could help the team right away, as there's plenty of talent that could possibly make their way to Chapel Hill.
The next few weeks should be interesting for the UNC football program, as we'll start to get a better sense of what next year's roster (and coaching staff) could look like heading into the 2024 season.
