The UNC Football program has the chance to do something it hasn't done in 32 years

It's been quite a while since the UNC football program accomplished this given feat.

If you're a fan who likes to research past history, this fact about the UNC football program might scare you leading up to the season opener at Minnesota.

North Carolina hasn't won a season opener on the road, on the other team's home field since 1992.

To put it into perspective, the Tar Heels haven't won on the road to start a season during my lifetime (I'm currently 31, in case you were wondering). I don't know about you, but I would love to see this streak end on Thursday night.

The good news is that the 1992 season was a very good one for Mack Brown and company. North Carolina went 8-3 in the regular season and finished second in the ACC. They then defeated Mississippi State in the Peach Bowl to finish the season with a 9-3 record.

Another interesting parallel from this year is that Brown used two quarterbacks, Jason Stanicek and Mike Thomas, in the 1992 season opener at Wake Forest.

While it's been quite some time since the UNC football program won a season opener in a true road contest, all streaks are meant to be broken. Who knows: maybe all the parallels to the 1992 team are a sign of good things to come for Mack Brown and the Tar Heels as we approach the start of the 2024 season.
