The UNC basketball program survives in Tallahassee, improving to 9-0 in ACC play
Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program continue to roll, as they defeated Florida State in Tallahassee on Saturday afternoon to improve to 9-0 in ACC play.
Early on, it looked like the Tar Heels would run away with this one, as RJ Davis and Harrison Ingram both connected on multiple early three point field goals to give North Carolina a double-digit lead.
However, the Seminoles weren't going to allow the Tar Heels to punk them in their own gym, as they essentially took over the second portion of the first half to take a five-point lead into the half.
Now, if you recall, back in December when these two teams met in Chapel Hill, Florida State held a double-digit lead in the second half. The Tar Heels were able to battle back in that one, and once again made it happen in the rematch.
The guard play for the Tar Heels was the story, as RJ Davis did RJ Davis-like things while freshman guard Elliot Cadeau had arguably his best game thus far as a member of the UNC basketball program. The West Orange, New Jersey native scored a career-high 16 points while connecting on eight of his 9 free throw attempts, while also dishing out six assists in the win.
For North Carolina, the bulk of the scoring came from the starting unit, as four starters finished the night in double-figures. Davis and Cadeau were a huge part of that, as they combined for 40 of the team's 75 points.
Harrison Ingram, who once again had the tape on his injured right wrist, had another huge performance, finishing the afternoon with 13 points to go along with 17 rebounds. After scoring just one point in the first half, Cormac Ryan knocked down three triples in the second half to finish with 10 points of his own.
Give credit to Florida State, as they gave the Tar Heels trouble, especially early on. As a team that isn't regarded as a very good three-point shooting team, they sure did knock their shots down, especially in the first half, as struggles at the free throw line ultimately made a huge difference in this one.
It wasn't the prettiest performance for the UNC basketball program, as they turned the ball over 12 times over the first 20 minutes and 16 total times throughout, and some cold spurts offensively didn't help much. However, as we've seen a few times prior, this team won't let you count them out, as they continue to rack up wins in ACC play.
