The UNC Basketball program's ACC/SEC Challenge opponent has been announced
At this point, should we even be surprised?
The matchups for the 2024 ACC/SEC Challenge have been set, as Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program will host... Alabama in a rematch from this year's Sweet 16.
Alabama ended the Tar Heels run in the NCAA Tournament with an 89-87 victory in Los Angeles. The Crimson Tide went onto make a run to the Final Four while the Armando Bacot era at North Carolina unfortunately came to an end short of the program's national title aspirations.
The Tar Heels will get a quick opportunity to earn some revenge, as the Crimson Tide will be making the trip to Chapel Hill. Quite a few familiar faces will compete in the rematch, as North Carolina returns the likes of RJ Davis, Elliot Cadeau and Seth Trimble while Nate Oats' squad has Mark Sears, Jarin Stevenson and Grant Nelson back for another season.
Alabama has won each of the last two meetings in this series, but North Carolina holds an 8-6 advantage in the all-time series. The Tar Heels hope to defeat the Crimson Tide this time and build on their 100-92 victory over Tennessee in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge a season ago.
At this point, we shouldn't even be surprised, as this was destined to be the matchup the UNC basketball program would have to face. The good news is that the game will be played at the Dean Smith Center, so at least the home court advantage is there.
Remember: the last four meetings in this matchup have been at neutral sites.
The non-conference slate for the UNC basketball program is essentially set, as the Tar Heels will once again face a very tough schedule of opponents throughout the first few months of the 2024-2025 season.
