September 6.

That's an important date for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program, as four-star Class of 2025 combo guard Derek Dixon will be taking an official visit to North Carolina.

The Tar Heels jumped into the mix for Dixon on May 21 when they extended a scholarship offer. A Washington, DC native, Dixon caught the attention of the Tar Heels, as they elected to officially put themselves in contention in his recruitment. Fast forward a month later, and it appears that the interest is mutual.

Colby Giacubeno of Made Hoops first reported that Dixon was planning on taking an official visit to North Carolina, and Joe Tipton of On3 and Sam Kayser of 24/7 High School Hoops confirmed the September 6 visit date.

North Carolina isn't the only program involved (especially in the ACC), as Dixon currently holds offers from Iowa, Kansas State, Miami, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. The Tar Heels may have some ground to catch up on regarding this recruitment, as Dixon has already made official stops to both Pittsburgh and Virginia during his recruitment.

It's definitely a good sign to see Dixon making a visit to North Carolina, as getting him on campus could benefit the Tar Heels as he inches closer to a decision. While he hasn't flat-out given a timetable as to when he plans on committing, the anticipated fall visit to Chapel Hill could ultimately be the final stop on his recruitment tour before a final decision is made.

If that's the case, the UNC basketball program could be in a very favorable position.

Recent talk for the UNC basketball program has revolved around two guards from the District of Columbia. The Tar Heels seem to be heavily active in recruiting Dixon (the No. 3 ranked player in the area according to 247Sports) and Acaden Lewis, the top-ranked guard from Washington, DC.

The question remains: could Derek Dixon be the first player from the Class of 2025 to commit to Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program?
