THE BOSH MAGIC CONTINUES FOR THE UNC BASEBALL PROGRAM!
If you didn't already believe in the "Bosh Magic," now is probably a great time to start believing!
Trailing by one run heading into the bottom of the ninth, the UNC baseball program once again mounted a comeback victory, as they are officially one win away from clinching a trip to Omaha.
Facing West Virginia ace Derek Clark, who threw 144, yes, 144 pitches over his 8+ innings of work, Luke Stevenson crushed the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth over the centerfield fence to tie the game.
After Alex Madera worked a tremendous at-bat, resulting in a single, the Mountaineers finally turned the game over to the bullpen, but it wasn't enough to stop the momentum.
With Madera on first with two outs in the inning, Vance Honeycutt stepped up to the plate. Of course, the moment wasn't too big for the program's all-time home run king, as he deposited a 3-1 fastball over the left field fence for a walk-off winner.
Honeycutt knew from the moment he made contact that this game was over, as the "Bosh Magic" once again kicked in on Friday night. After seeing plenty of it during the Chapel Hill Regional (and now in the Super Regional), it's safe to say that it's time for the non-believers to put their doubts to the side.
This game had the makings of being a potential tough loss for the Diamond Heels, as some sloppy play dug them into a hole. However, the Tar Heels battled back, as Colby Wilkerson's home run in the eighth innin (his first ever at Boshamer Stadium) cut the lead to one while Stevenson and Honeycutt did the rest of the damage in the bottom half of the ninth inning.
Give credit to Matt Poston, who came in relief and provided three innings of work while allowing no hits. The right-hander being able to keep the Mountaineers at bay, especially Kyle West, who hit two home runs in a 3-4 effort, played a major role in the comeback story.
Now, the UNC baseball program looks towards Saturday night, as a trip to the College World Series is just one game away.
The question remains: how much more "Bosh Magic" is left for this team over the next few days?
