Scott Forbes provides wisdom following UNC baseball program's ACC Tournament exit
Don't get it wrong: Scott Forbes and the UNC baseball program are disappointed with their outcome during the ACC Tournament.
However, although the extra-innings loss to Wake Forest stings, it's one that Forbes knows his team can't dwell on.
Following the loss, Forbes spoke to the media and provided this very accurate quote about how the UNC baseball program needs to proceed with the NCAA Tournament looming.
"Honestly, just flush it and move on. I've been fortunate to be here a long time, fortunate to be a part of some really, really good teams. Seven Omaha trips and feel like we should have had a couple more. But you know, some of those trips, we don't win the ACC Tournament. We sure tried to and there's no reason to dwell on things. That's where the coaching comes in. You go back and say, 'hey, this is why a bunt is so important. This is why we keep working on it. The right base-running decision.' But again, I'm gonna remind the guys the aggressiveness and going after it doesn't need to change, that's how you win a championship. But we also have to use our head a little bit and make some smarter decisions. And we'll work on stuff, that's where our job comes in to help these guys make those better decisions. Man, these guys, they're a pleasure to coach that's for sure. So I'll tell them honestly just move on. Trust us, we'll get back to work on Monday or Sunday."
Forbes is spot-on with his assessment. Of course, North Carolina missed some opportunities they would love to have back if they could, but you can't rewind the clock, as the only way to look is forward.
However, what you can do is learn from those missed opportunities, as they could help the Diamond Heels improve as they still have goals to accomplish this season.
The disappointing loss in the ACC Tournament shouldn't take away from the outstanding regular season the UNC baseball program had, and it shouldn't be a loss that has them dwelling on the past. What it should do is motivate them to continue improving as they strive to make a run to Omaha over the next few weeks.
