Fans of the UNC basketball woke up to the news they were waiting for:

RJ Davis is returning for one more season.

As most of the world slept, Davis was up ready to make his announcement, as the above Instagram post was released around 3 AM EST. If you check out the comments, some of his current (and former) teammates were up ready to welcome back the reigning ACC Player of the Year.

Over the last few weeks, this was the expected outcome, as Davis has been rather quiet regarding his future plans. It became more clear when his name wasn't listed among the players who have declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, which left two potential options: return to North Carolina or enter the transfer portal.

Fortunately, Davis will finish his career at the place he's already created an outstanding legacy at.

Davis elaborated on why his decision has taken some time in his most recent YouTube Vlog, which you can find below. He begins talking about his decision around the 10:40 mark.

Davis is coming off an historic senior season, as what he was able to accomplish is simply one for the record books. With an extra year of eligibility, Davis will have a chance to solidify himself in the UNC basketball program's record books, as he will have the chance to challenge Tyler Hansbrough's scoring record.

When his time in Chapel Hill comes to a close, Davis' No. 4 will take its rightful place in the rafters of the Dean Smith Center. Fortunately, that day will have to wait, as we will get to watch RJ Davis compete as a Tar Heel for one more season.

Why Not 4?! Welcome back!
