Postseason play begins on Wednesday for the UNC softball program
With the regular season officially in the books, Megan Smith Lyon and the UNC softball team are now focused on postseason play.
After a 30-19 regular season, the Tar Heels earned the No. 7 seed in the 2024 ACC Tournament. They will kick off tournament action with a battle against No. 10-seed Notre Dame on Wednesday, as first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 PM EST just down the road in Durham, North Carolina.
The good news for the Tar Heels is that they had some success against the Fighting Irish during the regular season. North Carolina took two of three meetings between the two teams when they squared off at the end of March, as the hope is that success will continue on Wednesday afternoon.
The UNC softball program also hopes to snap a four-game losing streak, as they ended the regular season with a non-conference loss to ECU followed by being swept in three games in Tallahassee by the Florida State Seminoles.
Oh, in case you were wondering: a win over the Fighting Irish on Wednesday would set the UNC softball program up with a meeting against... you guessed it: Florida State.
Of course, you have to take it one game at a time, as Smith Lyon and the Tar Heels are focused on the game ahead. Win today, worry about tomorrow later: it's that simple.
