Mack Brown has message for other coaches who use his age as a recruiting tactic
Mack Brown is a Hall of Fame level coach who has excelled for over three decades.
Of course, as he is set to turn 73 next month, there seems to always be rumors that circulate regarding his future plans.
Well, the UNC football program's coach is not ready to hang it up anytime soon, and had a strong message for fellow (and former) ACC coaches who have used his age as a recruiting target to deter players from North Carolina.
At the ACC Kickoff event in Charlotte on Thursday, Brown didn't hold back, as he let out this statement to show that he has outlasted the competition.
"Every coach recruiting against us says I'm going to quit. And six of them have been fired that said that already. So they ought to be worried about themselves."
Brown said one of the coaches who used this tactic against him was Mike Elko, formerly at Duke. Brown had some choice words for the coach who departed Durham to take the job at Texas A&M this offseason.
"Coach Elko said, 'I'll be at Duke longer than Mack will be at Carolina. I called him when he went out to A&M and said,' Okay, you lied.' He said, 'Well, I didn't think I was gonna [leave].' I said, 'Yeah, I got it. I hear all that.'"
It's safe to say that Mack Brown wasn't holding back while speaking to the media on Thursday. The tone of his voice while speaking about this topic was one that makes you believe that Brown still has plenty left in the tank, as the UNC football program's leader seems to be prepared to continue coaching for as long as he possibly can.
UNC Football recruits beware: Mack Brown plans on being the head coach of the UNC football program for the forseeable future. The other ACC coaches who may think otherwise are straight-up lying to you.
