Just when we thought the UNC football program's loss to JMU couldn't get worse...

More details have emerged regarding the compensation the Dukes received for playing this football game.

If it wasn't bad enough losing to a Group of 5 program and allowing them to score 70 points, this fact will unfortunately make it worse for the UNC football program.

As we've seen on many occasions, bigger programs pay schools to play, typically non-conference games. We saw it come back to haunt Notre Dame, who paid $1.4 million for Northern Illinois to beat them on their home field,

Well, if you laughed at the Fighting Irish (like I did), we are getting our karma back.

North Carolina agreed to pay James Madison $10,000 for each point scored. With the 70 points the Dukes scored, North Carolina is on the hook to pay them $700,000 for the game.

Having to pay to get flat-out embarrassed (while basically asking them to run up the score) on your home field makes it even worse!

While it isn't good news for anyone on the UNC football program's staff, James Madison's coaching staff will reap the benefits of the win. By defeating a Power 4 team (which North Carolina definitely didn't look like on Saturday but technically is one), head coach Bob Chesney receives a $15,000 bonus, while each JMU assistant coach, along with the head strength coach, will earn an additional $2,500.

I mean, as embarrassing as it is for UNC football faithful, good for JMU for not only winning the game and absolutely dominating a team they were considered 11-point underdogs to, but good for the coaches for earning some extra cash in the process.

At least someone is happy following that awful game.
