A little over a month ago, we put together our projected starting lineup for the 2024-2025 UNC basketball program.

Of course, it's so important to note that this is the type of thing that depends on who you speak to, as national college basketball insider Jon Rothstein has a little bit of a different take on how it will shape out come opening night.

Rothstein released his annual ACC Offseason Outlook, as he has the Tar Heels holding down the top spot in his rankings. Here's the projected starting lineup that he presented:

G Elliot Cadeau
G RJ Davis
G Ian Jackson
F Jae’Lyn Withers
C Ven-Allen Lubin

Now, our original projections match up with Rothstein's in terms of the guard positions. It's essentially a lock that RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau will once again resume their role in the starting backcourt, while five-star freshman Ian Jackson should be used as the third guard within the lineup (likey to see time at the wing position).

The final two frontcourt spots are essentially an open competition, as it could shape out in a variety of ways.

Rothstein believes that Jae'Lyn Withers will start alongside incoming transfer Ven-Allen Lubin. In our projections, we had incoming transfer Cade Tyson starting as a "stretch four" while Jalen Washington finally gets his opportunity to start for the UNC basketball program.

If the Tar Heels go with Rothstein's lineup, they will be sacrificing a bit of size within the frontcourt, which is what led us to believe that Washington might get the nod out of the gate as he provides a little more height.

Again, you'll see a lot of starting lineup projections over the next few weeks leading up to the 2024-2025 season, as it's likely that Hubert Davis and his staff are still working to finalize the starting unit. While it can be altered at any time, it's good to know that the UNC basketball program has plenty of options to work with, as this team has the potential to go 9 or even 10 deep throughout the season.
