While his team just secured a trip to the next round of the playoffs, Jalen Brunson had the Tar Heels on his mind.

Jalen Brunson really went there...

After Brunson led the New York Knicks to a series-clinching victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, the former Villanova star was asked about competing in the state where his college career took place.

Brunson was able to look up at the rafters to see the Villanova championship banners hanging in the Wells Fargo Center, as he recalled the title he won as a Wildcat during the 2015-2016 season.

Unfortunately, fans of the UNC basketball program don't like to remember that one!

The Tar Heels were on the losing end of that title game, as a Kris Jenkins buzzer-beater is one of the most dreaded highlights in UNC basketball history.

While speaking to the TNT crew after the game, Brunson made sure to take a friendly jab at former UNC basketball star Kenny 'The Jet' Smith, reminding him of that national title game.

When Brunson realized it was Smith asking the question, the current Knicks guard made sure to repeat about the 2016 National Championship, leaving the Inside the NBA crew laughing at the joke.

Sure, Villanova found a way to win that game, but the UNC basketball program responded a year later by winning a national title of their own. Safe to say, it worked out for both Brunson's Wildcats and the Tar Heels.

Now, Brunson has emerged as one of the NBA's top players, as he hopes to lead the New York Knicks deep into the playoffs. The former Wildcat secured a first-round series win in a place that's very familiar to him, as him and his team will now move on to take on the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
