Is there a chance that Harrison Ingram could actually return to North Carolina?

The junior recently declared for the NBA Draft, and although he seemed firmly committed to moving on, there is still a slight chance he returns to college.

When Harrison Ingram announced that he was entering the NBA Draft on Saturday, his social media post made it seem as if he was definitively focused on pursuing a professional career.

On Monday, a notable college basketball analyst provided a glimmer of hope that the UNC basketball standout could potentially return to Chapel Hill.

Jon Rothstein reported that Ingram does, in fact, intends on staying in the 2024 NBA Draft, but plans to maintain his college eligibility as he goes through the draft process.

Interesting.

Now, you might be asking, "what are the chances that Harrison Ingram does return to North Carolina?"

Based on what we know, it isn't very likely.

In fact, what Ingram is doing at this point is a smart move. While he explores his professional opportunities, maintaining his college eligibility as a safety net doesn't hurt, as he'll have a few weeks to firmly decide what his future intentions are.

Sure, that doesn't really help the UNC basketball program build a roster for next season, but at this point, you'd have to imagine that Hubert Davis and his staff are building a team without No. 55 on the roster.

Before you get your hopes up: don't expect Harrison Ingram to return to the UNC basketball program for another season. Although we'd all love to see him on campus for another season, there's probably less than a 5% chance that it actually happens, as unless things go completely south during the NBA Draft process for him over the next few weeks, Harrison Ingram is ready to bet on himself and begin his professional career.

This is something to keep in mind, but isn't something that should necessarily get your hopes up.
