Hubert Davis shows emotion as he reflects on 2023-2024 UNC basketball team
The UNC basketball program's season came to an end before they hoped it would, as the Tar Heels suffered a disappointing loss to Alabama in the Sweet 16 of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Emotions were high after the game, as the coaches, players and staff spoke about how it would be the last time this group takes the court together. Hubert Davis wasn't afraid to hide his emotions as he was asked about this team as a whole.
"I've been around a lot of teams as a player and as a coach. I've never had as much fun as being around this year's group. I told them that I needed them this year. ... It was a blessing and joy to be around them."
Since before the season began, Davis has raved about how much this team enjoys being around each other. That was evident when this team took the court, as they created a special bond that was fun for fans to observe.
From boom box jam sessions pregame to viral TikToks, not only did this group gel together as one but made the UNC basketball faithful feel as if they were part of the team as well. Davis has been around plenty of teams in his basketball career (both as a player and coach), so to hear him consistently say how much fun it was to be around this group is a testament to what they were able to accomplish as a unit.
Sure, the Tar Heels national championship aspirations fell short. However, 29 wins, a ACC Regular Season title and two impressive victories over rival Duke are some of the many things that will be remembered about this group.
When we visit the Dean Smith Center in the future and look up to see the 2023-2024 ACC Regular Season title banner, we'll all look back and, of course, remember all the amazing moments they put together on the court.
What we'll also remember is what a fun group this was to watch, as we were lucky to have been a part of this journey with them.
