Clifford Omoruyi is one of the most popular names in the transfer portal, and rightly so.

In a portal that has a handful of very good big men, Omoruyi easily ranks close to the top of the list. The former Rutgers standout is an impact player on both ends of the floor, as plenty of programs have expressed interest in his services.

As his recruitment is heating up, a common trend seems to be occurring: there appears to be plenty of mutual interest between Omoruyi and the UNC basketball program.

Inside Carolina first reported that Omoruyi has "high" interest in North Carolina, as the elite shotblocker has been in contact with Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels staff. To add to this report, On3's Joe Tipton later added that Omoruyi is focused on 12 schools, as North Carolina is one of those teams.

Of course, the Tar Heels have shown interest in a handful of talented big men within the transfer portal period, as one of the offseason goals is to bring in another player to compliment Jalen Washington. With Armando Bacot exhausting his collegiate eligibility, the Tar Heels have a glaring need at the center position, a void that a talented player like Omoruyi could help fill.

Plenty of roster moves and decisions will be made over the next few weeks as college basketball programs look to shape up their rosters for the upcoming season. The UNC basketball program is no different, as the goal is to to add some talented players to help build a championship-caliber squad for the 2024-2025 season.

Could Cliff Omoruyi be the right fit for the Tar Heels?
