Fall ball set to begin for Scott Forbes and the UNC baseball program
The 2024-2025 school year is officially underway in Chapel Hill, which means that sports are up and running.
While we're all focused on the current sports in action, there's baseball being played at Boshamer Stadium with Scott Forbes and the UNC baseball program kicking off their slate of fall practices on Friday.
The program releases some important dates for their upcoming fall schedule, one that begins with practices and ends with the annual World Series.
After getting some practice time in, the Diamond Heels will compete in two exhibition games against Walters State on October 4, followed by a matchup with Florence-Darlington on October 11.
Fall practices will be important for Scott Forbes and the Diamond Heels, given the number of new faces that have entered the program. While Vance Honeycutt, Casey Cook, Dalton Pence, and a few others are no longer in Chapel Hill, this group possesses a ton of talent to work with, especially with 23 players returning from last season's College World Series squad, giving Forbes and his staff plenty of options to experiment with over the next few weeks.
Competition will be fierce in Chapel Hill for sure. Forbes isn't handing anyone playing time or innings on the mound based on last season. Each student-athlete will have to come in and compete for their spot, proving that they still deserve to play a significant amount during the 2025 season.
The good news for UNC baseball fans is that they can check out the new-look Diamond Heels this fall. Admission for the exhibition games is free while other inter-squad scrimmages will also be open to the public. Click here for more information regarding the Diamond Heels' fall schedule.
