Derek Dixon... YOU are a Tar Heel!

On Friday, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound combo guard from Washington, DC announced his commitment to Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program. The four-star recruit becomes the first player from the Class of 2025 to commit to the Tar Heels.

It's very well-known that North Carolina is aiming to add multiple guards from this respective class, as Dixon provides a great start to that. A top-50 prospect in the Class of 2025 (according to 247Sports Composite), Dixon is a versatile guard who should fit very nicely in Hubert Davis' system.

After his recent official visit to North Carolina, all signs seemed to point toward Dixon eventually committing to the Tar Heels. A telling sign was when he cancelled a scheduled official visit to Arizona, a decision that made it seem even more likely that he saw (and heard) what he needed during his time in Chapel Hill.

To add to it, two Crystal Ball predictions were placed in favor of the Tar Heels this week leading up to his announcement, as Ross Martin of 247 was so confident that he ranked his prediction as a 9 confidence.

While this is a tremendous start for Hubert Davis and company, there's still plenty of work to be done. Fellow guard Isaiah Dennis will make his official visit to campus this weekend, while Acaden Lewis is expected to be on campus on October 2 (a visit that may be altered by this news, so it's something to keep an eye on).

The Tar Heels hope that Dixon's commitment starts a trend of top-tier players committing to the UNC basketball program, as North Carolina would love to bring in a three or even four player class to shape its future roster.
