Deja Kelly joins exclusive UNC women's basketball company
Deja Kelly was not at 100% on Tuesday night when the UNC women's basketball program took the court in the annual Jumpman Invitational.
In fact, the senior guard was battling a stomach bug that impacted her not only in the days leading up to the game, but during the game itself.
Although her status was uncertain, Kelly battled through as she always seems to do and put together a performance that made it seem like she wasn't ill at all.
Kelly exploded in the first half, scoring 18 of her game-high 21 points over the first two quarters of play. With those 18 first-half points, Kelly fittingly became the 25th player in UNC women's basketball program history to score 1,500 career points while wearing the Carolina blue uniform.
The San Antonio, Texas native wasn't going to let her team down, as she logged 39 minutes while playing under the weather. Her first-half spark was huge for North Carolina as it was a main reason why the Tar Heels were able to erase an early deficit.
Kelly once again proved that she is a legit gamer, as she once again did whatever it took to help the UNC women's basketball program succeed. No one could ever question her toughness, as she put that toughness well on display in this tremendous outing that she was able to put together.
Some are even calling this performance her version of the "Flu Game," as this outstanding performance (and win) will always be tied to her joining some elite UNC women's basketball program history in the process.
